The Facelift Procedure
A Facelift must be performed under some kind of anesthesia. The most common choices for a Facelift are IV sedation and general anesthesia.
A traditional Facelift begins with an incision in the hairline (at the temples) and continues around the outside of the ear, ending at the lower scalp. From the face, neck and jowls, fat may be redistributed about. Tissue is repositioned, and the layers of skin, as well as the muscles of the face, are also lifted. Skin is stretched and draped over the lifted facial contours. Excess skin is neatly trimmed away. A secondary incision, under the patient’s chin, may be needed to improve an aging neck. Finally, skin adhesives or sutures are used close up the patient.
Facelift Recovery
After undergoing Facelift surgery, someone will need to take you home and remain with you for a minimum of 24 hours. In very few circumstances, Dr. Blinski may suggest a short stay in the hospital.
Your entire face may be taped and wrapped in order to minimize swelling and bruising. A thin tube might be used to drain any excess fluid or blood that might collect underneath the skin during recovery.
Bruising and swelling usually takes about 2 weeks to subside, but can last up to 2 months. Generally speaking, you can return to work after 1 week.
